When there's a job to be done, the American Bulldog is more than happy to do it! Descended from Bulldogs that were developed for illicit sport in 19th century Britain, the American version of the breed was used for wrangling cattle on the early frontier. These tough, sturdy and versatile dogs were strong enough to hold unruly hogs and cattle, while agile enough to dodge hooves and horns. American Bulldogs are friendly, intelligent and assertive, and require a strong, experienced hand - as well as a purpose. They love to work and will do so dilligently. Size and coat color varies; they can weigh from 60 to 120 pounds and come in white and white with brindle or tan markings. Early socialization and obedience training is essential.
