The Siberian Husky originated with the
Chukchi nomads, who used these loyal, intelligent and
alert dogs to pull sleds and herd reindeer in the Tundra
regions of Northeastern Siberia. Fur Traders and gold
prospectors brought these dogs to North America in the
1900's. The Siberian Husky's speed and endurance have made
it popular among dog sled racers; gaining international
prominence when several Husky teams delivered serum to aid
in the Diphtheria epidemic of 1925 in Nome, Alaska.
Siberian Huskies are very friendly and make excellent
family pets. They prefer the outdoors and require plenty
of exercise. Regular, thorough brushing of the thick
double coat is all the grooming that the Siberian Husky
requires.
